Sail away with me, honey

If there is one thing a bride wishes for on her wedding day it is sunshine. And this celebration had it in abundance. For a couple who were united by their love of the sea and the sun (he was the captain and she the crew when they locked eyes while on the Caribbean), a glorious day of sunshine in early Spring was certainly meant to be for Nadia and Gavin.

Styled by Spread Love Events, the celebration gave a subtle nod to the couple's love story as classic navy was paired with pops of bright color alongside other thoughtful design elements including a "message in a bottle" guestbook.

Lush spring-time blooms made up the florals with poppies, hyacinth, tulips and ranunculus accompanied by roses, spray roses and lisianthus. Soft foliage including eucalyptus and dusty miller worked alongside hints of myrtle, which was also tied to each guest's menu card adding a subtle yet fragrant touch.

Held at popular downtown venue, Brix, this wedding was captured beautifully by Rebecca Amber Photography and Christie Graham Photography (second shooter).

The quaint and quirky succulent

Adding plants to the interior of your home can be the perfect way to breath some life in to any space. If you somehow manage to kill any plant you come in contact with, fear not. There is a solution. Succulents. These beautiful yet indestructible plants are among the easiest to take care of, we promise. They come in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors. Here's a few examples of some succulent planters we have in store at the moment.

Now here is all you need to know to take care of your new house plants.

Succulents like lots of natural light so find a spot in your home where they can bath in indirect sunlight, such as a window. Always allow the soil to dry out between watering to prevent the roots from rotting. During the warmer months, every 7 - 10 days is a guide. During winter this might cut back to every two weeks or so. To test, place your finger in the soil. If there is still moisture, do not water. If you decide to re-pot your succulent, ensure to purchase fast-draining soil that is designed for cacti and succulents. If this sounds too complicated, come and visit us in store and we'd be only too happy to help.

So... what are you waiting for?

The power of peonies

There's just something about peonies, isn't there? That tight little bud of petal perfection that opens before your eyes revealing layer after layer of beauty that we can't get enough of. Despite being only seasonally available in May and June, peonies are one of the most sort-after blooms for brides and flower-lovers alike. With this in mind, we thought we'd celebrate this fabulous bloom with a few peony-inspired bouquets and arrangements we've made.

A little something to keep in mind if you are a peony-loving bride. Peonies can be imported at various times throughout the year when they are not in season locally. However, there is no guarantee of availability and you will have to pay the higher price of having them sourced internationally. If this is the position you find yourself in, consider substituting peonies for garden roses. Garden roses (different to standard roses) have an incredibly beautiful fragrance and the same multi-layered petals that are so loved about the peony.

Many of the above images have a combination of peonies and garden roses. Can you spot the difference?

If you had to ask us to pick our favorite occasion in which we used peonies, it would be a very tough call, but we couldn't go past our 2012 Creme de la Creme floral display. Peonies alongside garden roses and Ecuadorian roses, ranunculus, anemones and ferns. Bliss.

Boho-chic inspired

Just when we thought our week could not possibly get any better, we find we've been featured on Style Me Pretty. Yes, we're pinching ourselves.

Le Soirees Weddings & Events and Vasia Weddings were the talented creatives behind this boho chic-inspired shoot which seamlessly combined the Old World charm of the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver with an eclectic Bohemian style.

For the florals we incorporated a spectrum of color from soft yellow, white and peach through to stronger oranges, reds and burgundy and even pops of blue and fuschia. The array of blooms used was equally as broad, with garden roses, amaryllis, anemones and delphinium holding their own alongside more exotic inclusions such as leucadendron, protea, pin cushions and ginger.

When it all came together, the result was a luxurious, colorful dream with just the perfect dose of warm gypsy charm.

Nature meets revelry

When bespoke wedding and events collective All & Sundry approached us to collaborate on a styled shoot, it was an opportunity we couldn't resist. With a passion for all things natural, sustainable and ethically-sourced, All & Sundry have made a name for themselves in the wedding industry as cultivators of uniquely-designed celebrations.

Presented with a design brief requesting "simple elegance with a warm color palette", we were given plenty of room to flex our creative muscle and had a thoroughly enjoyable and rewarding time doing so.

As is the case with all flowers used by Celsia Florist, all floral product for the shoot was either locally grown or sourced from fair-trade farms, providing us with a stunning array of blooms from hyacinth, lisianthus, peonies and roses to the star attraction - our hellebores which were purchased from a local nursery.

Thank you to Mikaela Ruth for photographing the scene so perfectly and to our talented fellow collaborators who made it all possible.
